Rhythm on the track: what comes next?
Make seven separate PLA tokens: four circles and three triangles. Slide the cooled tokens along a paper track, continue two rhythms and record them in pencil. Work in pairs; each pupil makes their own set.

How to run this session
Stages and timing
- Make four circles K1–K4
- Make triangles (T1–T3)
What gets built
The pupil recognises the repeating chunk and continues two rhythms on their own.
What it practises
- Identifying the repeating group or pattern in a sequence of objects.
- Independently continuing ABAB and AAB rhythms.
- Recording a rhythm with symbols (○, T) and ringing the repeating group.
- Safe use of a 3D pen: pause for a second at the start, follow the line and stop without a blob or thin spike; make your own circle and triangle from a 1:1 pattern with an internal reinforcement.
Success criteria
- The set contains four circles and three triangles; tokens are cooled, separate and recognisable.
- On track 1 lay out circle–triangle–circle–triangle. Independently add the next two tokens, record the rhythm and ring the repeating group. Collect the tokens. On track 2 lay out circle–circle–triangle; independently add the next two, record the rhythm and ring the group.
- Record both rhythms in pencil and ring the repeating group.
